I tend to wonder about people who don’t like animals. For that matter I tend to wonder about people who are just indifferent to animals. While certainly there is a balance, and I am not ready to jump on the PEDA bandwagon , I have to say, when it comes to dogs and horses, I have yet to meet one that I didn’t want to take home. And, secretly cats amuse me. Although, there is no way that I would say that I am a cat person, as Cats remind me of some humans who just can’t wrap their minds around the thought that some of us do like personal space.
But, never the less… back to my original thought. Don’t you wonder about people who aren’t any kind of animal lovers? I have spent a lot of time around horses and dogs of late… and this much I do know. They teach us a lot about ourselves if we are brave enough to take in the lesson. I have also noted that they often times mirror their people. Which of course isn’t all that comforting when I consider Daisy.. My little pup who…. yes, should be called Gypsy Diva, or ….
After a fun-filled weekend at the Edwards ranch watching dogs herd… I came home, sat down with my pup Daisy Mae, and thought.. OK what is it that you are teaching me about, well me?
Daisy is loyal to me a fault, she is strong-headed and strong-willed, independent to a fault, playful, ADD and OCD, can be demanding and bossy, totally unaware of her limitations… and, okay wait.. Oh, yea, I was talking about DAISY. LOL
Well maybe not every dog is a mirror of their owners…… I pray.
But, what I have learned the most, while not every animal can be saved or reformed to be a working animal, love and time can do so much to restore it to ability to trust. So I guess what I am wondering is, if you aren’t one of those people who are willing to pick up a self-help book, or do the work of being at least somewhat self-aware, I am wondering what you see when you look at the animals in your life. Hum, I wonder.
